IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT THE PROGRAM

We are constantly evolving to better support patients throughout the entire transplant process.

  • The only center for allogeneic transplant candidates in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
  • The first and only program in Puerto Rico that offers stem cell transplant to adult patients through donors.
  • Offers various treatment options for patients of hematological conditions in Puerto Rico.
  • The center is designed to promote an adequate flow of patients, with the purpose of reducing risks associated with cross contamination, patient monitoring, and disease management for transplant patients.
  • Nationally recognized by the National Bone Marrow Donors Program, which manages the most diverse registry in the world.

This program is for patients with

Blood cell cancers, like leukemia.

Illnesses that result in bone marrow insufficiency, such as aplastic anemia.

Genetic and immune diseases.

Types of Bone Marrow Transplant

Allogeneic

The patients’ stem cells are
replaced with new, healthy
stem cells from a 100%
compatible donor.

Autologous

Stem cells are collected, which help
produce blood; then, after being treated
with high doses of chemotherapy, the
patient’s collected stem cells replace
the affected bone marrow, allowing the
patient to produce new red blood cells.

Haploidentical

A haploidentical transplant,
instead of using a familiar
donor that is 100% compatible,
the bone marrow or stem cell
donor is a parent or a sibling
with 50% compatibility.
