Nutrition

Our nutrition department offers nutritional evaluation, diet calculator and orientation for hospitalized and ambulatory patients with different conditions. These services provide the necessary tools and knowledge for the management and/or prevention of disease, weight control and health.

All our dietitians have certifications in Diabetes, Weight Control, Renal Conditions, Vegetarianism, Cancer and the credentials required by the Credit Agencies and the Health Department, the Dietitian Examination Board of Puerto Rico and the Nutritional and Dietitian College of Puerto Rico.

Services

Hospitalized Patients

The nutrition and evaluation services for hospitalized patients are available seven days a week. We also count with the Nutritional Therapy program TPN (intravenous feeding) and enteral feeding (feeding through a small probe.

Ambulatory patients

Nutrition Clinic

Auxilio Nutrition Department offers nutritional evaluation to ambulatory patients through appointment. We attend any kind of the following conditions: pediatric, cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal, diabetes, gestational diabetes, and enteral and parenteral nutrition.

Auxilio Weight Control Program for Children and Adults

Our Program includes:

  • Figure analysis
  • Body mass test
  • Nutritional evaluation by certified weight control dietitians for adults and chiuldren, individual nutrition plan, orientation about alternatives to eat at restaurants and fast food, follow up every two weeks, maintenance plan (services are included in both adult and pediatric programs)
Auxilio Diabetes Education Program (PED):

PED is certified by the American Diabetes Association since 2002. We have been pioneers in complying with the highest standards in quality and excellence for which we were recently re-certified until 2018. Health and nursing professionals offer individual evaluations and group orientations about diabetes and its complications, medication, nutrition, exercise, glucose monitoring, feet care and many other subjects that provide the tools for self care during this condition.

Puerto Rican Food for Ambulatory Patients

Auxilio Mutuo Hospital and its nutritional ambulatory programs have a special Puerto Rican menu for that Criollo taste. These foods are locally prepared and frozen to conserve their quality and flavor. Our menu is low in calories, sodium and fat for all adults and children that are under our care.

Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions that augments the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and Mellitus Diabetes. It’s a combination of health problems that in many cases can appear at the same time or in sequence. Such symptoms are abdominal obesity, elevated triglycerides, low HDL levels, hypertension, High glucose levels before breakfast. We can help you coordinate an appointment with an experienced medical professional for your condition such as endocrinologists, dietitians and other lab or services this may require.
